SUMMARY:Growing Strawberries in the Home Garden – Dungeness River Nature Center
DESCRIPTION:Sweet Success Starts at Home: Learn How to Grow\nDelicious Strawberries in Your Garden\n \nThere is nothing quite like the taste of a sun-ripened strawberry picked fresh from your own garden. Sweet, fragrant, and bursting with flavor, homegrown strawberries are one of the easiest and most rewarding fruits for gardeners to grow. Gardeners on the North Olympic Peninsula are invited to discover the secrets to successful strawberry growing at the next class in the Homegrown Berry Series with Clallam County Master Gardener Jeanette Stehr-Green, Saturday, May 30th, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Dungeness River Nature Center, 1943 W. Hendrickson Road in Sequim.\nIn this informative and practical class, longtime Clallam County Master Gardener Jeanette Stehr-Green will explain how to select the best strawberry varieties, choose the ideal planting location, and properly plant and space strawberries for maximum production.\n \nParticipants will learn:\n\nThe differences between June-bearing, everbearing, and day-neutral strawberries\nHow to choose varieties for a continuous harvest throughout the summer\nBest practices for planting and spacing strawberries\nSeasonal care and maintenance\nHow to renovate June-bearing strawberry beds after harvest\nWinter protection strategies\nWhen and how to replace older, less productive plantings\n\nStrawberries are an excellent crop for home gardeners because they require relatively little space, produce fruit quickly, and can thrive for several years when properly cared for. By following the techniques presented in this class, gardeners can reduce disease problems, increase yields, and enjoy fresh berries at the peak of ripeness and flavor.\n \nAbout the Presenter\nJeanette Stehr-Green has been a Clallam County Master Gardener since 2003 and is a respected gardening educator, newspaper columnist, and frequent speaker.
