Pruning Blueberries for Productivity – Digging Deeper Saturdays Series

  • Saturday, February 1st, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Fifth Street Community Garden, 328 East Fifth Street in Port Angeles. Or —
  • Saturday, February 8th, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Lazy J Farm, 225 Gehrke Road in Port Angeles.

Research has shown that when blueberry plants are not pruned or are pruned too lightly, they become less productive. Join Clallam County Master Gardeners Jeanette Stehr-Green and Audreen Williams to get the facts and learn how to properly prune blueberry bushes.

Jeanette will describe the typical growth pattern of a blueberry bush and outline a systematic approach to pruning, as well as factors that affect blueberry pruning practices. Jeanette and Audreen will demonstrate pruning techniques on blueberry bushes at the 5th Street Community Garden and Lazy J Farm. They will also answer your questions about growing and pruning blueberries.

Jeanette Stehr-Green has been a Clallam County Master Gardener since 2003. Jeanette writes gardening articles for local newspapers and is a frequent speaker at Master Gardener and other educational events. Jeanette was the 2012 Clallam County Master Gardener of the Year. She has attained the Lifetime Achievement status with Clallam County Master Gardeners and received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award. Jeanette has completed Oregon State University’s Online Blueberry School.

Audreen was the 2014 and 2019 Master Gardener of the Year. She has attained the Lifetime Achievement status with Clallam County Master Gardeners and received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award.

The pruning demonstrations will take place outside rain or shine; participants should dress appropriately and be prepared to stand for 30 minutes or more. Attendance is limited and registration is required for this free event. Because the two sessions cover the same material, please sign up for only one session.
