Studium Generale: Zen Plum Blossoms: Spring Thoughts on the Art of Zen and the Zen of Art

Peninsula College’s Studium Generale series announces an upcoming lecture, “Zen Plum Blossoms: Spring Thoughts on the Art of Zen and the Zen of Art,” featuring distinguished speaker Tetsuzen Jason Wirth, PhD, Professor and Chair of Philosophy at Seattle University. The event is scheduled for April 18, from 12:35 pm to 1:25 pm. It will take place in person at the Little Theater at Peninsula College’s main campus, with an option to join via livestream on Zoom.

Dr. Wirth is celebrated for his significant contributions to Continental Philosophy, Buddhist Philosophy, Aesthetics, and Environmental Philosophy. His extensive body of work includes influential titles such as Nietzsche and Other Buddhas: Philosophy after Comparative Philosophy (Indiana 2019), Mountains, Rivers, and the Great Earth: Reading Gary Snyder and Dōgen in an Age of Ecological Crisis (SUNY 2017), and contributions to the discourse on cinema with his current projects on Terrence Malick and ecological philosophy.

As a priest in the Soto Zen lineage, Dr. Wirth brings a unique perspective to the intersection of Eastern and Western philosophical traditions, exploring the profound connections between the art of Zen and the broader realm of aesthetics. His lecture promises to be an enlightening experience for anyone interested in the philosophical underpinnings of art and the environmental ethos inherent in Zen philosophy.

This special presentation is made possible through the generous support of the Peninsula College Foundation, committed to enriching the intellectual and cultural life of the community.

Attendees are invited to join in person at The Little Theater or via the livestream.  Meeting ID: 892 5525 2663
